Pet Stay & Trains

Why Choose A Stay?

Stay & Trains are a wonderful option for busy houses, short timelines, or owners who feel like “they are the problem”. We are able to build the exact same skills we normally would in private lessons, on a much faster timeline thanks to the level of consistency and dedication we are able to uphold when a dog is living and working with us.

We conduct several private lessons following any stay, and you will spend a period of 2-4 weeks in “transition”, where you learn how to let your dog’s new skills shine and how to maintain them. We are available for help throughout the entire process to ensure everything your dog has learned transfers back to your home and lasts.

We are not a kennel facility, and dogs stay in our home with us, becoming integrated into our personal lives and pack for the duration of their stay. To ensure our full attention and dedication, we only take in one Stay & Train at a time. Explore our options for length & subject material below!

6-Week Stay

Appropriate for most dogs. This timeline allows for extensive obedience training and socialization, building manners and responsiveness in all areas of training from advanced obedience to home manners and even off-leash skills. Dogs often come out of this program length fitting the description of a “dream dog”, capable of going anywhere they’re allowed and just existing with the family and at gatherings.

We offer our 6-week pet programs for $3800, which includes 3 follow-up private lessons and all necessary equipment.

4-Week Stay

Appropriate for puppies and dogs who simply need some extra work in a few areas, or dogs with some prior training ready for more advanced skills. This timeline allows for basic, on-leash obedience training and some behavior modification in & around the home, or adding more advanced obedience/off-leash work to a dog with prior training. It is also the ideal length for puppies under 6 months old to build foundations and social skills.

We offer our 4-week pet programs for $2800. This includes 2 follow-up private lessons and all necessary equipment.

2-Week Stay

Appropriate for owners on a limited timeline or budget, looking to build very basic skills. Also appropriate for existing clients looking for a “boost” to private lessons they are already doing.

Typically, we cannot make progress with any type of behavioral issue in this program length. We can reliably improve leash manners, door manners, and teach a “place” command. We will not accept dogs with separation anxiety or any type of reactivity/aggression into this program length, even if it is not the concern being addressed.

This program is best suited to being combined with additional training and other program types. We offer this 2-week program for $1400, and include all necessary equipment and 1 follow-up private lesson.

Stay & Train FAQs

What are the prerequisites for
Stay & Trains?

For any Stay & Train, your dog must be current on their rabies, parvovirus, and distemper vaccinations. Dogs must be kennel trained and potty trained. Puppies under 20 weeks old at the start of training are exempt from vaccination and behavior requirements, but must still undergo an evaluation. We have no size limits. Dogs must be medically healthy to participate in a Stay & Train. This is assessed upon drop-off and we reserve the right to turn away any dog who is severely overweight or underweight, poorly groomed, or displaying obvious signs of pain or injury. We recommend, but do not require, a wellness check with your vet before a Stay & Train.

If training with Mystic Mutts has been done within the last 2 months, no evaluation is needed before a Stay & Train. In all other cases, a pre-stay evaluation is required.

What will my dog’s day look like during Stay & Train?

We modify dogs’ schedules and activities depending on where they are in training and what is developmentally appropriate for them! Typically, adult dogs receive 3-4 potty breaks, 1-3 dedicated training or home manners sessions, play or a walk with myself and/or my personal pack daily, and outings as appropriate for the skills we are working on. Puppies’ days are broken up into smaller chunks to accommodate more frequent potties, more naps, and shorter attention spans. Dogs are fed, sleep, and rest in their kennels for their safety and comfort. This is non-negotiable and we cannot accept dogs who are not crate trained.

Dogs do not have to be dog-social to stay with us and can be kept entirely separate from our personal pack at owner request or trainer discretion. Dogs are never left unattended together even if social.

Can I come visit where my dog will be staying?

We do not allow in-person visits for the comfort & safety of the dogs & people in our household, as our Stay & Trains take place at our private residence. However, we are more than happy to provide video tours of the dog room & where your dog will be staying! Visits during a dog’s program are not standard, but may be done on occasion if it will be beneficial for your dog’s progress.

What do I need to bring for a
Stay & Train?

When bringing your dog for a Stay & Train, we require enough food for their stay in the original bag or an airtight container, any training tools they currently use, and a plain, properly fitted collar with tags. We also require a filled Intake Form and will perform a basic health examination upon drop-off which you will need to verify & sign before leaving.

We require that dogs be crated whenever they are not supervised during their stay for the safety of them & our pack, regardless of their behavior or level of training. If your dog prefers a crate other than a standard wire kennel, please bring it.

We provide crate covers, blankets, toys, chews, bowls, and additional training equipment as needed for the duration of your dog’s stay. If your dog has allergies, a special food bowl, or specific items they like, you are welcome to bring your own.

My dog has an unusual feeding schedule, fresh/raw food, and/or medication. Can you accommodate this?

We can administer any oral or topical medication and accommodate fresh and raw diets at no extra charge. Please bring any medications & over-the-counter supplements in the original container with written directions regarding the amount & schedule.

All dogs are fed once or twice daily per owner instruction, with food left down for 20 minutes in their kennels and a one-hour rest period after. Puppies under eight months old may receive a lunch at owner request. This is for both safety & training purposes and is not a policy that can be altered. We will not free-feed except in cases of medical necessity.

How often will I get updates?

Every owner with their dog in one of our Stay & Train programs will receive daily photos and written updates of their dog’s progress, and we are always available to answer questions or concerns. We will always get back to you within 24 hours if your dog is enrolled in our Stay & Train program. Communication and transparency are priorities of our program.
